Soil respiration represents one of the largest and most significant carbon fluxes in terrestrial ecosystems. Due to soil heterogeneity, soil respiration has notable spatial variability. Increasing the number of soil flux monitoring sites, without limitations on monitoring radius, can help reduce uncertainties in soil respiration studies. Smart, real-time, and low-cost distributed monitoring of soil respiration is essential for understanding and managing rapidly changing ecosystems. The PRI-8650 is a newly designed distributed soil gas flux system that utilizes Internet of Things (IoT) techniques.
Compared with conventional multiplexer coupled soil respiration systems, each PRI-8650 is a standalone node, has a full function to measure soil flux, and connects via wireless networks. Simultaneous synchronous measurement enables scientists to get more valuable data
